| Solidarity with the Haitian Workers! |
|
On Saturday, August 25, 2012, as Hurricane Isaac headed for Haiti, nine people were arrested by the Haitian police. Their crime?: Protesting against their living conditions and demanding access to housing because they have lived, like hundreds of thousands of others, in inhumane conditions since the earthquake of January 2010. They were arrested and brought before the courts. The UGTG hereby: - Supports the workers and people of Haiti and demands the immediate release of all the detained activists. - Condemns in the strongest terms the violation of fundamental freedoms -- especially the right to protest for decent living conditions; - Requests that the President of the Republic of Haiti respond, without delay, to the just and legitimate needs and demands of the people of Haiti. NO TO REPRESSION! For the right to housing, health care, living wage jobs ... and life -- FOR ALL! signed/ Elie Domota General Secretary
